Innovation-ATM Usage in Jordan

ATM’s are very convenient in society today, they are used for many things such as making transfers, withdrawing money, checking your balance and with some of the more advanced ATM’s even offer the convenience of making deposits into your account with out having to go through the trouble of having to see a bank teller.

In the article, “Customers’ Financial Needs satisfaction and Self-service Technology Banking: The Case of Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) in Jordan,” by Fawzi Al Sawalqa.  A study was done in order to see two main things; the first one is to see how effective the low cost service, security and privacy are beneficial to the customer and the second thing that was being tested was if the gender, or demographic circumstances makes a difference in an individuals basic needs.  To conduct the study a questionnaire was given to 140 individuals, out of these individuals only the ones that used a debit card were given the opportunity to proceed with the survey.  The results of this survey concluded that more then half of the participant’s taking the survey were male, only 7% of users were over the age of 50, and only 1.5% of users that have a PhD will use a debit card.  After the study was finished you’re able to see that there is no relationship between ATM cost services and their financial needs. Although many feel as if they shouldn’t be charged anything when using any ATM, this will probably continue.

Many people will not use an ATM for many reasons, whether they feel as if their not secure, or simply feel as if ATM’s are too complicated to use.  Others feel the complete opposite and will use the ATM for any of their banking needs.  In the future many more studies will probably also be conducted in Jordan in order to be able to see how convenient other banking services will be to those who live in Jordan.

  1. I feel like using an ATM is the only way to bank. I think our generation is used to always having an ATM available, where as my grandparents still go to the bank and still use checks. As technology grows I feel ATM banking services will grow in Jordan just as it has in the United States.
