Growing the Firm-Waste Management Expands CNG Fleet-current event

Waste Management Expands CNG Fleet
I have read the article concerning Waste Management expanding their Commercial fleet of Garbage trucks to compressed natural gas or CNG. The purpose of the article is to inform interested parties of the direction Waste Management is headed with their commercial fleet, and what the benefits will be for business and the public. Waste Management will be entering the market of selling CNG.
CNG is nothing new to the market of fueling vehicles. What is new is that Waste management is taking advantage of market prices for the fuel. There is no current adequate support structure for CNG vehicles in the Houston area. Waste Management is currently operating their own fueling station. Waste Management also plans to open 20 new CNG stations across the country by the end of 2012. Waste Management is currently operating 5 vehicles powered by CNG north of the Houston area. They plan to build this fleet up from 5 to over 30 vehicles by the end of the year.
So what are the benefits? The most obvious benefit  is the savings concerning the cost of running a fleet of trucks. The next benefit is cleaner more environmentally friendly engines that put out far less pollution per vehicle. This equates to 22 less tons of green house gases. Another important benefit is lower maintenance cost for the truck fleet.
So what does this all mean? It means that Waste Management could be leading the way for other companies to elect CNG as an alternative to traditionally fueled vehicles such as diesel. It will also make fuel available for the public to purchase CNG. This would greatly reduce the emissions of green house gases in the Houston area. Waste Management may be setting an example for others to follow. This CNG choice will further reduce our dependence on imported oil.
