Innovation:
Leap Motion Develops Gesture Control Technology
Leap Motion is a company based in San Francisco that has
developed a technology call gesture
control technology. This technology is will allow you to control
your computer with a wave of your hand.
I can see this at some point in the next few years replacing the
revolutionary mouse. With advancement of handle held tablets this
technology will allow more people in the consumer and business segments to
break away from using a mouse or touching a screen. The Leap Motion technology is more accurate
than a mouse or touchscreen, so this will totally change how we will interact
with computers and tablets. Instead of
being hardware based this technology is software based which will allow it to
be updated very easily and be used on many different types of hardware. Leap Motion is calling it Leap 3D, it is a
USB device and is now available as a pre-order for $69 and will ship December
2012.
Having employees consumers tied to a laptop with a mouse has
in the past few years handicapped them with the advancements in
technology. With this technology they
will no longer be tied to a mouse. This
technology will allow artists to more easily create 3D images, allow signatures on documents by using a
pointing pen, allow gamers to play games with a high degree of accuracy over
the Kinect, and surgeons will no longer
have to take off their gloves to control 3D medical data. The technology was developed by two individuals
with backgrounds in mathematics. They
have received all of their funding and are in the final stages of product
release. The big outcome of this technology
will be to see how long it takes before the mouse will no longer be used on
computers.
Since this technology is a 3D motion control system the
implications will be the way we interact with computers, play games, and
perform our jobs. Managers in graphic
art, engineering, and healthcare should be early adopters of this technology.

I enjoyed reading this article and I am interested in learning more about this technology. It seems that the mouse and touch screen technology have been around for awhile, and that it is time for companies to go forward with something new. With any new technology, there will be malfunctions with its debut, which should be fully tested and corrected before being available to the general public and used in the medical field.
ReplyDeleteInteresting article, I enjoyed reading it. I believe that with time everything will be motion operated and voice controlled. Companies will have to adjust and try to adopt the new changes that come with technology.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. It is going to be hard to give up my mouse and keyboard but if the technolgy works as good as they say it will I am willing to give it a try.
