Breaking story, Comcast (the cable company which also owns NBC Universal) and Time Warner (the cable company which also owns HBO) are under investigation for anti-competitive, monopolistic practices. In particular, this relates to pricing and access discrimination against online access offerings from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon (among others).
Cable TV is facing a major business model change, but that change is still down the road. For now, most Americans view television through a cable box. However with innovations like Roku and next generation web-enabled televisions, it's becoming easier to access online providers directly from your television. This is a battle that's been predicted for over a decade and the opening rounds are just now beginning.
