The article,
“The Introduction of Biometrics Security into Organizations: A Managerial
Perspective” by Hossein Bidgoli presents a systematic approach for the
introduction of biometrics as a security measure in an organization. Its purpose is to find a way to stop hackers
from breaking into systems and altering private information. Each year billions of dollars are lost
because of security breaches.
Computer
and network security has been a problem in the United States for many
years. “Security threats are on the rise
and it has become a major challenge for system managers, public and private
officials to come up with new and more comprehensive security systems in order
to keep the hackers and computer criminals at bay” (687).
According
to Bidgoli, “the article proposes a six-step guide that if followed should
significantly increase the chances of success for using this fast growing
technology.” These steps include: 1) understanding security threats and
measures 2) understanding access control 3) understanding biometrics measures
4) understanding common applications of biometrics 5) understanding case
samples 6) putting together a plan for implementation.
Biometric
Security is important because a broad security system protects organizations
records, such as financial statements, employee and customer information and so
forth.
Bidgoli’s
findings imply that an organization should make sure that its resources are
secure. Managers should be proactive
when it comes to securing its resources and provide more training for its
employees.

Great article to remind us that security measures are important to any company, whether the company is private or public even small or large.
ReplyDeleteCyper threats seem to be one of the fastest growing threats for many companies and the government. This is actually a hot enough topic that presidential candidates speak of it as a priority. I think companies have to approach this situation like many others; using a risk based cost/benefit analysis. There is only so much money a company can spend before the cost outweigh the benefits, based on the determined risk.
ReplyDeleteWith a fast growing technology currently, information security is really important, especially in every sinngle company. If people don't have a good security system in every department, every single person, competitors can easily be able to access company's finance information as well as employee's personal information. For example, setting up company account just for employee users only and just be able to access under unique and complicated code. Also, not allow employees checking personal email or surfing internet browser for personal needs.
